I started my previous blog (Prairie Girl in the City) as a fashion blog. It was a place for me to have fun with styling, talk about clothes, and hopefully, help inspire women to find their own unique style. Fast forward to now, and life with three littles, and every day zooming by faster then the day before, I don’t quite have the same amount of time to dedicate to my love of fashion. I have had to simplify my closet and choose practical items that fit my lifestyle. Yes, I wear a lot of sweat pants, leggings, and hoodies. I ADORE comfortable clothes and refuse to be uncomfortable (except for actually putting on a proper bra when I leave the house.)
When I do leave the house, I take the opportunity to have a little bit of fun with what I’m wearing. Getting ready is like being on some sort of game show where the challenge is to create an original look in 5 minutes that boasts both practicality and a sense of style. Some days I fail. Some days I just don’t care. And other days, I make it work. This was one of those outfits that worked. There are no new pieces I’m showing off, just my 5 minute closet throw down, and here’s what I came up with.
The core pieces are quite basic. My good old Old Navy boyfriend jeans and plaid shirt. I swapped out my usual runners for my favourite pair of pointy toed ankle boots. My jacket is a bit of my own creation. This was an old American Apparel cropped rosette pullover that I have had for like a million years. I always found it a bit awkward to wear as it was kinda bulky and a bit too short. A couple years ago, I decided to have a chunky gold zipper put in it and make it into a cropped bomber jacket. It is such a better cut for me now. It’s a bit of an unexpected combo with the plaid, but I liked how it elevated the look. A bobble on the wrist and my designer bucket bag, was my way of bringing out my fashion girl side. There was absolutely no time for hair styling, so a top knot it was. Absolutely my hairdo of choice these days.
