A big opening number…how much do we love the combination of classic Hollywood glamour and Neil Patrick Harris? Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were the perfect comic duo. And then there was the fashion! The Oscars felt very “Old Hollywood” this year. The men were classic in tuxes and the women were elegant and ladylike. Some trends we saw were:
1) Up swept hair was definitely the look of the evening. There was a real ease and softness to it though, no helmet hair here.
2) Long gowns in neutral tones. Celebs like Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Sandra Bullock, Anna Kendrick, and Cameron Diaz went for the popular hues of this season…pale blush, light golds, and soft taupes. These natural colours also showed up in The Star’s makeup, mainly with the nude coloured lip. Of course the exception to this was Oscar Award Winner Sandra Bullock who went with a bold red lip.
3) Young Hollywood went to the most classic of colours…black. Young stars like Kristin Stewart and Carey Mulligan wore detail adorned dresses that made this colour anything but basic.
4) Many of the curvier gals wore another hot colour for this season…royal navy. This colour was worn by Mariah Carey, Oprah, and Gabourey Sidibe. Hmmm, I also just realized that they were all involved in the same movie. Do you think they planned it???
George Clooney. What? He’s always a highlight. Come on, the guy took his time getting to the red carpet to hang out with the fans who were lined up across the street and signed autographs for them. Love him!
Sarah Jessica Parker wore a dress only she could pull off, and in my opinion, looked fabulous! She wore a yellow Chanel Couture dress with metallic floral embellishment.
Tom Ford wow! He designs, he produces, he’s gorgeous! He’s a welcome addition to the Oscars!
Vera Farmiga went against the grain in a red ruffled gown by Marquesa. This designer is known for ruffles and did not disappoint with her stunning gown. This red vivid colour made it one of, if not thee, stand out dress of the evening.
The Oscars wouldn’t be The Oscars without Meryl Streep. She looked amazing in a white low cut dress designed by Project Runway’s Chris March.
Both Jennifer Lopez and Amanda Seyfried were absolutely gorgeous in Armani Prive!
My favourite Red Carpet Blunder Winner goes to….Ben Mulroney. There’s nothing like comparing Carey Mulligan’s Prada gown to a “glamourous mullet” . How did this guy get this job? I’d imagine it has something to do with “Mulroney”. Oh Ben…
And of course, one of the biggest moments of the night was Kathryn Bigelow becoming the first female director to win an Oscar. Yay women!
All in all, a great night!
Feel I missed someone? I’d love to hear your thoughts too.
