Top it Off

Maybe it’s the one year anniversary of Wills and Kate getting hitched, but I’ve had hats on my brain.   It could also be that a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting with Vancouver Milliner, Dominique Hanke.

Dominique is in fact from the other side of the pond, a small village in southern Staffordshire, England.   However, she didn’t begin her creative venture into hat making until she made it over to Vancouver in early 2007 when Hive Mind Millinery was born.

I instantly fell in love with all her whimsies and felt hats.   I was like a kid in a candy store!    I’m currently narrowing down my colour choice to have my very own Hive Mind Millinery creation made for me.   As far as I’m concerned, a hat is must for all ladies…and men for that matter.  A hat will complete an outfit instantly and can add real personality to your look.

“Hive Mind Millinery is bringing a fresh and modern take on millinery to Vancouver, contrasting the traditional hat-making technique of hand-forming felt and straw over antique wooden moulds with a unique and contemporary finish, creating a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art.”     –  Dominique Hanke (designer)

A sample of Dominique’s vast collection of forms, both vintage and new.  One of her new forms is the same form used to make a hat for the Duchess of Cambridge.  Way cool!

Dominique’s Whimsies hats are incredible!  They are so fun.  This whimsy creation is featured on her website and I just had to share.  Share how lovely the hat is and how amazing Dominique looks modeling it.  Yes, that is the Millinery Maven herself!
