Too Nice?

I recently heard about an article that came out in Star Magazine about the 20 most hated celebrities in Hollywood.  While troubled stars like Lindsay Lohan and Chris Brown were no surprise to see on the list, I was quite shocked to hear about people’s hatred for Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway.  Gwyneth was actually the number one most hated celebrity, according to this list.  How does this make any sense?   Chris Brown who beat his girlfriend and Lindsay Lohan who has been in and out of jail more times than we can count, are more likable than Gwyneth Paltrow?

Even more absurd is the reasoning for the hate on.  Apparently people find her “perfect” life irritating and her demeanor to be too nice. While working in retail, I actually once had a customer complain to me that I was being too nice.  She said there was no way this could be my “real” personality and that I must be faking it.  She went on to tell me that I really don’t need to be that friendly and that it was too much.  I was completely shocked.  I assured her that this is indeed who I am all while she had a look of disgust on her face.

What does this say about our society when the women of The Real Housewives of New Jersey are considered more likable than a talented and kind actress like Anne Hathaway?  In a world where tragedy seems to be striking fast and furious, don’t you think we could use more nice people in the world?

If I can look back at my 15 year career in the retail industry and my only customer complaint I ever had was that I was too nice…I think I can live with that.

Whats even more disturbing is that once again rather then build up women society chooses to put out an article that pushes us to hate. I for one would never even peek in a magazine like that, whether it is deserving or not!
    So sad!

Hmm..I don’t find Gwyneth Paltrow to be too nice. I find her to be a condescending know-it-all, but I don’t hate her. I just don’t find her to be very interesting.
