Green Product of the Week

Since adding Coconut Oil into my beauty routine, I’ve read of dozens of different uses for it.  It’s kind of a remarkable product.  It can be used for eye cream, diaper rash, lip balm, massage oil, and of course cooking.  The options are endless.  Be sure to look for a virgin organic oil which can be found in most grocery stores.  Here are just five ideas to get you started.

5 Ways To Incorporate Coconut Oil Into Your Beauty Routine

1. Eye makeup remover:  I’ve found that coconut oil breaks through all my eye-make up and moisturizes at the same time.  I just use a dry cotton wipe, dip it in my coconut oil, and then wash my face as usual.

2. Shaving:  I’ve never been one to use shaving gel, but I’ve found that can result in dry legs.  Coconut Oil is very moisturizing and allows for a smooth shave and silky gams.  I apply the oil before getting in the shower, then lather my legs with my regular soap, and then shave.

3. To soothe dry skin:  Whenever I get a patch of dry skin I now apply a bit of Coconut Oil to soothe and moisturize.  (For the Mommy’s-To-Be out there…try using coconut oil on your growing bump.  A natural alternative and much more cost effective.)

4. Cuticle oil: I have the driest hands resulting in very dry cuticles.  I like to rub Coconut Oil into my cuticles before bed to help put some moisture back in my skin.

5. Something I’d like to try….
Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub
1 cup of brown sugar
1/4 or 1/2 cup coconut oil  (depending on how oily you’d like it to be)
1 tsp vanilla or almond oil
You can also add 1 tbsp of  vitamin E oil if you like.
Mix together well.
Pour into jar with lid.
Use in the shower as a body scrub.
Makes a great gift.  Think of adding some decorative touches and a pretty label when giving it away.
